PAPS and PARS Label

A barcode is a method of representing data values in a machine-readable form. PARS and PAPS are two barcode labels used in the Trucking industry. Before moving ahead, remember these labels as PARS for Canada and PAPS for the U.S.

  • The first four-digit of PAPS always starts with a SCAC code assigned to the carrier and PAPS is always unique for each shipment.
  • The first four-digit of PARS always starts with a carrier code assigned to the carrier and PARS is always unique for each shipment.

PAPS Labels

U.S. Border authorities (CPB) use PAPS for importing goods into the United States. PAPS uses it as a shipping control number for Custom Brokers and ACE eManifest number. PAPS is labeled with the custom invoice when the commercial shipment is loaded in Canada to deliver in the United States. This custom invoice is then sent to theU.S. Customs Broker via email or Fax who enters information with the PAPS label number in U.S. Customs computer system.Through the eManifest service centre, the PAPS barcode information is entered as a shipping control number (PAPS – ACE SCN) in the ACE eManifest (Advanced Commercial Environment System). Unlike at Canadian Border, U.S. customs does not want to see the PAPS barcode on the custom commercial Invoice at Border. The U.S. customs officer requests only the ACE eManifest cover page (ACE SCN number is printed on the cover page).

PARS LABELS

Canadian Border authorities (CBSA) use PARS for importing goods into Canada. PARS barcode is labeled with the custom Invoice when the commercial shipment is loaded in the United States to deliver in Canada. This custom Invoice is then sent to the Canadian customs broker via email or Fax for the custom invoice data punching in the Canada customs system with the PARS number.

Through the eManifest service centre, the PARS barcode information is entered in the ACI eManifest (Advanced Commercial Information System) with CBSA. When a driver reaches the Canadian Border, the Canadian customs officer scans the PARS label from the custom Invoice, and the driver then proceeds further.

Unlike the multi-cargo shipment control document, the PARS process requires only one label per shipment. The word PARS should be visible on the barcode label imprinted with the PARS barcode with CCC- Canadian Carrier Code and Sequence number or below the barcode to identify the PARS shipment.
