The CBP requires this code at the time of crossing the border. This two to four-letter code is a straightforward approach to keeping track of the carrier companies and all the other documents digitally.
The carrier provider needs to register at NMFTA – National Motor Freight Traffic Association to obtain the SCAC Code. The new SCAC code’s information is forwarded to CBP as per the instructions given by the NMFTA to authenticate it on the CBP computer system.
